The Somali Society of Gastroenterology (SSG) proudly announces the establishment of
SomGastro Academy, a new national educational initiative dedicated to strengthening training,
professional development, and scientific advancement in the field of gastroenterology in
Somalia.
SomGastro Academy represents a major step forward in building a skilled workforce capable of
addressing the country’s growing burden of digestive and liver diseases. The Academy will serve
as a central platform for structured education, academic programs, clinical training, online
learning, and continuous professional development for physicians, trainees, nurses, and allied
health professionals.
“SomGastro Academy fills a critical gap in Somalia’s medical education landscape,” said SSG
president. “For the first time, gastroenterology professionals across the country will have access
to a unified, evidence-based learning hub designed to elevate standards of care and support
future specialists.”
The initiative will offer:
Postgraduate training modules in gastroenterology
Short courses and workshops in endoscopy, functional GI disorders, and research
methodology
Online CME programs for nationwide accessibility
Training curricula aligned with international guidelines (ESGE, AASLD, WGO)
Academic collaborations with regional and global professional societies
The launch of SomGastro Academy reflects SSG’s long-term vision to build national capacity,
advance scientific learning, and foster the next generation of Somali gastroenterologists.
SomGastro Academy officially begins its first programs in 2026, with detailed
